Industrial Service Technicians are responsible for performing repair and maintenance on containers and/or the vehicle fleet. This position routinely requires moderate to extreme physical exertion and may require prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and working in awkward positions.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
- Perform sanding, grinding, cutting, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Grinds metal parts after welding.
- Welds steel and aluminum components using Mig and Arc welding equipment.
- Cuts steel using a plasma cutter or torch.
- Bends steel components using a break ad shear.
- Fabricates steel components on trucks and containers.
- Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.
- Performs layout operations, develops fixtures for one-of-a-kind units, and selects optimum welding process.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards.
- Completes safety checks on containers and compactors.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing computer system.
- Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
- Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment.
- Performs on-site repairs at customer locations.
- Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
- May assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Estimates time and material used and cost of repairs.
- Complete welding repairs at 3rd party sites (customer location).
- Complete painting at 3rd party sites (customer location).
- Complete minor hydraulic repairs at 3rd party sites (customer location).
- Complete voltage changes on equipment in shop.
- Drive CDL vehicle.
- Complete basic trouble shooting of equipment.
- Correct equipment deficiencies and perform preventive maintenance on company owned equipment.
- Perform detail inspections of compactors, containers, and equipment.
- Travel to customer sites for repairs and follow up.
- Work with management on scheduling work.
- Identify and repair or report worn or failed components, etc.
- Ensure all safety devices are in good working order.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas).
- Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of MIG/ARC and stick welding.
- Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter.
- Knowledge of small shop tools.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals
- Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to commercial hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.
- Familiarity with using a computer.
- Basic electrical knowledge. Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals and safety training.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum four (4) years welding and cutting experience.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and fumes as found in a repair or fabrication facility.
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions possible.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Must have a CDL license and a medical card.
- Good Driving record; able to meet Rumpke driving qualifications.
- Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results.
