Landfill Foreman

The Landfill Foreman job duties include but are not limited to the daily supervision of trash placement and site maintenance activities while maintaining complete compliance with local, State and Federal regulations. The hours and physical demand may vary.

  • Coordinate activities of workers engaged in landfill operations, utilizing knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regulating waste disposal
  • Oversee the road maintenance activities
  • Direct the spreading and compacting of solid waste and applying appropriate cover materials
  • Provide for disposal of asbestos containing materials according to applicable regulations
  • Assist with managing the daily trash to minimize odors, dust and noise
  • Oversee the odor control appliance process to maximize odor control
  • Coordinate with management daily to assure adequate trash placement
  • Provide adequate traffic control to expeditiously move trucks through the dumping process
  • Direct workers in the safe operation of equipment while complying with applicable OSHA, MSHA, and OEPA requirements
  • Oversee earth moving equipment to achieve established objectives
  • Provide daily project direction and manpower allocation
  • Maintain a professional work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must meet requirements for Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job
  • Self-motivated; capable of working independently and in a team
  • Possess leadership skills to oversee processes and lead others
  • Good communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, and safety training
  • Must have the ability to read construction drawings and details
  • Must have the ability to understand regulations pertaining to the work
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience operating heavy equipment
  • Minimum (3) years landfill experience or equivalent

  • Landfill environment
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste and recycling
  • Exposure to equipment traffic
