Machinist

Under minimal supervision, sets up and operates manually controlled machines including lathe, vertical mill, drill press, hydraulic press, saws and a variety of cutting tools and equipment. Ability to produce quality precision components in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements including micrometers, dial gages and threading wires.
  • Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, band saw, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
  • Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment while maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Experience operating the following machines:
    • Vertical Mill.
    • Horizontal Mill.
    • Drill Press.
    • Band Saw.
    • Engine Lathe.
  • Experience using the following machining tools:
    • Micrometers - ID and OD.
    • Calipers - Digital, Dial, Vermer.
    • Thread Measuring Wires to Thread Diameter.
    • Thread/Pitch Gage.
  • Ability to use Machinist Handbook to determine proper thread sizes.
  • Ability to measure existing parts to machine new.
  • Ability to perform own machining set-ups using blocks, jigs, fixtures, etc.
  • Ability to select appropriate tooling to complete machining duties.
  • Ability to chase threads.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum one year of experience in operating engine lathes, vertical mills, saw, and drill press.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and fumes as found in a repair shop environment.
  • Exposure to the elements.
  • Medium to heavy physical effort, routinely lifting weights exceeding 75 pounds.
  • Performs work in awkward positions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results.
