Operations Manager

Operations Managers are responsible for the adherence to operating standards, the development of supervisory goals and objectives, and the management of labor hours and disposal expenses. This position oversees all operational aspects of the hauling business within a location. Operations Managers implement operating procedures and ensure standards are met. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
  • Performs all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the location and provides leadership and support to managers in ensuring quality and budget performance.
  • Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance.
  • Manages staff, including hiring, training, performance management, counseling, safety, etc.
  • Interacts with customers and local, state, and federal government employees to resolve customer service concerns, and ensure regulatory compliance standards are met.
  • Manages processes and resources to meet productivity and efficiency goals.
  • Conducts investigations for accidents, incidents, and property damage claims completing accurate and detailed reports, and necessary follow-ups.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the operation to ensure an adequately trained workforce to meet collection requirements is maintained.
  • Interacts with local, city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts and negotiate new contracts.
  • Works with the maintenance department to monitor and improve fleet utilization, repair, and maintenance costs.
  • Forecasts, implements, and monitors hauling budget and business plans.
  • Monitors and enforces quality and safety standards, and ensures all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
  • Participates in regular P & L reviews to ensure that budgets are met.
  • Develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Approves expenses and manages the budget for the operations department.
  • Formulates short and long-term goals and action plans with the Regional Vice President.
  • Prepares and presents reports as necessary.
  • Maintains proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous management experience is preferred.
  • Waste industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to understand and analyze P & L statements and project trends.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer skills; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications; AS400, and Lotus Notes applications a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and personnel management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct large staff.
  • Process and results-oriented with a commitment to organizational success.
  • Ability to prioritize work and the placement of personnel, equipment, and material.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must not have any DUIs or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in any 10-year period.
  • Must not have any license suspensions within the last 2 years.
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays, and be available to address operational issues by phone at all times.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Office and outdoor environment.
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions possible.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste is possible.
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions while outside of the vehicle.
