Sales Specialist (Construction and Recycling)

Construction and Recycling Specialists are responsible for prospecting and generating new commercial and industrial business as well as retaining and increasing current customer recycling business. This position requires cold calling on commercial and industrial accounts in the field to generate new contracted sales for recycling and construction. The hours and level of responsibility may vary by location or line of business.

  • Secure new business and maintain existing relationships with existing large commercial and industrial generators of recycling materials
  • Identifies leads, manages prospects, and acquires new business
  • Cultivate existing customers’ recyclable volumes from commercial, retail, and industrial accounts
  • Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly budgeted sales goals for Industrial Hauling – Roll Offs
  • Prospect and develop recycling opportunities for all material or commodity types (i.e. OCC, office paper, mixed, co-mingled, high volume RO loads, metal, aluminum, glass, etc.)
  • Coordinate efforts with hauling and recycling operations to pinpoint and service existing high-volume recycling opportunities
  • Routinely interacts and meets with MRF Manager or Supervisor
  • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of Rumpke’s services and pricing structure
  • Determines customer needs and proposes appropriate service needs.
  • Meets or exceeds the new business sales goals
  • Conducts cold call and prospecting activities that result in scheduled first appointments and follow-up appointments with decision-makers at businesses and/or contractor sites which could require customers “boots and jeans” as well as “suits and ties”
  • Ensure all lead source business opportunities are quoted profitably (i.e. ABC, ACI, RBN leads, referrals, driver leads, permanent customers with temporary competitor containers, etc.)
  • Prepares and delivers sales proposals/presentations to key decision makers that result in closing the sale
  • Proposes customer solutions that are compliant with appropriate local, state, and federal regulations
  • Utilizes the company’s Growth Management System (GMS Board) daily, scheduling and documenting activities, and developing prospective customer profiles
  • Performs data entry to populate electronic sales orders via the Sales Management System (SMS)
  • Secures customer signatures on required Customer Service Agreements (unaltered)
  • Submits and reviews accuracy reports and other paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policy
  • Develops and maintains an awareness of market behavior and competitive trends and responds accordingly
  • Attends meetings regularly with Sales Supervisor to review weekly sales activities, progress on goals, and status of prospective customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Highly motivated individual who is a self-starter with a professional demeanor
  • Previous cold calling experience
  • Preferred recycling/waste industry experience and/or working with contractors
  • TEAM player acting as an advocate for the customer while maximizing operational efficiency working as an expert in the field to assist field reps on recycling opportunities and transitioning temporary construction service to permanent work
  • Experience in developing and executing territory sales strategies
  • Possess strong presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently to meet or exceed goals
  • Must present and communicate in a professional manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be organized with good time management skills
  • Possess proven analytical/problem-solving solutions for the customer and the company
  • Computer proficiency in Windows and Microsoft applications.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to perform tasks in an occasionally challenging environment, including inclement weather, possible loud noise, and uneven pavement at the construction site
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Sales or related field preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years outside business-to-business sales with a proven track record of success
  • One (1) year of experience in a customer-facing sales role (business to business)
  • Good Driving record; able to meet Rumpke driving qualifications
  • Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results
