Wastewater Tech

Waste Water Technicians are responsible for safely overseeing the waste water system and assisting with the odor control at the landfill. This position also assists in various areas of the landfill, including operating equipment. Technicians are exposed to unpleasant odors and sights and weather elements. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform tasks and operate equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Set-up and maintain portable pumps for leachate and storm water control.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on diesel and gas engines.
  • Monitor storm water pumping to maintain steam clarity and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage odor control system through the night hours.
  • Observe waste water system and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Manage waste water discharge to maximize through put.
  • Take readings and evaluate system operations.
  • Evaluate phase 5 area for odors, mechanical problems, system failures, etc.
  • Safely operate vacuum, sweeper, flush and other trucks as needed.
  • Assist with landfill maintenance as needed, ie. Build and repair fences, pick up litter around the landfill, dig tracks, etc.
  • Perform duties at the yard boxes, truck wash and wheel wash as needed.
  • Assist with equipment services as necessary.
  • Assist with applying Alternate Daily Cover (ADC) when necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, (ie. lubricating, fueling and cleaning equipment).
  • Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Proficiently complete all operating and labor tasks assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (physical exertions, including sitting, standing, reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
  • Must possess the mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn facility’s extensive waste water system.
  • Must possess the ability to learn to weld HDPE pipe.
  • Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds at least 10 times and have the ability to carry heavy objects.
  • Must possess the ability to learn to operate equipment to work in the trash disposal area as needed.
  • Experience in a related work environment preferred.
  • Must be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work in conditions with exposure to weather elements.
  • Good verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
  • Must pass a written and operational test to be certified to operate equipment.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL.
  • Must not have any DUI’s or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
  • Must not have any license suspensions within the last 2 years.
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, and safety training.


WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and fumes.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
